Golf

Rory Mcilroy is one of the worlds leading golfers.

Golf is a sport that is played worldwide. Golf is a sport which involves hitting a ball with a club towards a hole in the ground a certain distance away. The modern game of golf was developed in Scotland around the time of the middle ages. It did not spread worldwide until the 19th century. It is said that the Royal St. Andrews club in Scotland is the home of golf and is where golf was first played.

     Golf has grown into one of the worlds top sports and is played for big prize money professional around the world. There are two tours the European and the PGA tour. Players compete every week in these two tours. There are four majors in a year. The Open, The Masters, The US open and the PGA championship. These are the most prestigious tournaments throughout the year. The Ryder cup is also played every two years between the Europeans and the Americans.

     Its amazing how a small town sport can be made into a multi-million doller sport.       

Cricket

Cricket is one of the world’s leading sport and is the national sport of two of the most populated countries in the world Pakistan and India.
         So where does this sport come from. Cricket has been a sport since the 16^th century. The first rules/laws of the sport of cricket came in 1744. The game came from England and is one of the most played sports still in Britain. The first ever test match was played in 1877. Cricket was then introduced into other countries such as the West Indies and India by the British East India company.     

       Cricket is a sport that involves a bat and ball. A bowler bowls the ball into a batsman who will then attempted to hit the ball. If the ball bounces and goes over the boundary the batting team gets four points. If the ball goes straight over the batting team will receive 6 points.   
     
       Cricket has grown into one of the worlds leading sport. It is yet another sport in which the British have created.

 

Hockey

 

Field Hockey is one of the oldest sports in the world. The first signs of field hockey amazingly date back to 1000bc where it is said that hockey was played in Ethiopia. Also around 4000 years ago hockey

was layed in Egypt and this is where hockey really came from. We know this as in some museums around the world there are signs of hockey sticks and balls. There is also evidence of the Greeks playing it along with the Romans, the Aztecs and many other South American tribes and countries. England is now renowned as one of the biggest countries in the world of field hockey. Hockey came to England during the 1700's and has expanded into one of the most popular sports in the world.

 
    Field hockey was introduced into the Olympics in the London games in 1908. At first it was only a males event. But hockey was the dropped from 1912 Stockholm Olympics and wasn't reinstated as a Olympic sport till the 1924 Antwerp games. Hockey has been a regular sport in the Olympics ever since. Hockey is a growing sport in the world which is over 4000 years old.

Where did the first signs of rugby come from? Rugby is said to be a mixture of a load of different football games which were played in ancient times. It comes from many different football games across Europe including Italy's sport Calcio Fiorentiono, Scotland's Jeddart Ba and others. It is also said to come from sports down under in New Zealand and Australia. The ancient sport of Ki-o-rahi from New Zealand and the sport of Marn Grook from Australia also show signs of were rugby came from. 

           Rugby was founded by a man by the name of William Webb Ellis. The first official set of rugby rules were created in 1845. William Webb Ellis was an English Clergy man. He attended a school by the name Rugby School. Webb Ellis was a cricketer in his time at school. Webb Ellis is said to have came up with the idea and rules of rugby.  The rugby world cup which is played every four years and is the most prestigious tournament un the world is now called the Webb Ellis cup. William Webb Ellis is now forever in rugby history. Rugby Union as now evolved into one of the worlds most popular sports.

Today I am going to talk to you about where football (soccer) originates from. Football is the most popular sport in the world today. It has over 250 million players playing in 200 countries worldwide. But where did this sport come from? First signs of the football came from China around the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. It was said that Chinese people played a sport which involved kicking a leather ball into a small net. This is the earliest sign of the sport of football. But it is well known to people that the modern game of football originated in England. Football started out as a very vile sport and it is even reported that the first ball was a head of a Danish solider. Football was also banned in the year 1365 by King James it got so out of hand. The big kick off of modern football happened in and around 1815. Some big university's around England started promoting football and this is what really kicked the game of football off. Football then gradually spread across the world and it made it the sport it is today.
        
         So even though the Chinese might claim the English were the people who made what is now the biggest sport in the world.
